About Alex Berks, L. Ac.

Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist since 1997

Alex Berks L.Ac Dipl. Herbs earned his B.A. in Anthropology from the University of California at Santa Barbara (1987) and a Master’s degree in Oriental Medicine from Emperor's College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He is state and nationally licensed to practice Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. Alex has studied both Eastern and Western medicine and integrates both in his practice. Balancing the body/mind/spirit to nourish vitality is integral to the healing process. This is a wonderful complement to the disease based biomedical approach. Alex focuses his practice on creating reproductive health and supporting cancer patients.

Whether you are using reproductive technologies or trying to get pregnant on your own, the value Alex brings is in his understanding of reproductive medicine. Alex then translates this to Chinese Medicine so that specific acupuncture and custom herbal formulas can be applied throughout the cycle and into pregnancy. He has advanced training in reproductive medicine and has studied with Randine Lewis, author of the "Infertility Cure" and "The Fertile Soul". He has given evidence-based lectures on the scientific understanding of acupuncture and its role in obstetrics and gynecology.

In the realm of supportive oncology care, Alex works with patients to improve their quality of life, ameliorate side-effects of conventional care and empower individualized healing. Alex's gift is his ability to "nourish life". He has studied the use of acupuncture for cancer patients at Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center and has lectured to Oncologists about the use of acupuncture for cancer patients.

Alex also provides pain treatments for orthopedic conditions. He has been the Acupuncture Doctor at various orthopedic and pain management clinics. In addition to his practice, he has taught Nutrition, Practice Management, and Shiatsu and at the American University of Complementary Medicine and is a clinic supervisor at Emperor’s College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Alex spent five years as a Senior Herbalist at Elixir Tonics and Teas, advising clients on their health and herbal programs.
